Andaman and Nicobar Islands-White Sand Beaches And Tribals
The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are one of the most beautiful places in the Indian subcontinent and it is a perfect family getaway. The islands provide a perfect opportunity for you to leave the hustle and bustle of city life and delve into a life of peace and solitude. The clear blue waters and charming hospitality of the locals makes it a must visit for any traveler.
The islands are known for their laid back nature and paradise feel. Port Blair is the main city in the region and it is also the commercial center of the region. Most of the other towns along the coast are quite remote and the people are often friendly and warm. Certain parts of the islands are restricted and you cannot travel through these areas without an armed guard. The islands are home to a thriving tribal population, especially in the Nicobar side. They are still out of touch with civilization and resent any intrusion from outsiders. Making contact with these tribal people is prohibited at all costs. There are around 600 islands in the archipelago but out of these only nine are open to foreigners. Some of these are very remote and are among the most inaccessible places on earth.
The Andaman and Nicobar tourism are known as a paradise for lovers and the peaceful and calm nature of the sea is one of the main attractions. Indian tourists can apply for permits to visit the Nicobar region but these permits are rarely given. The tribal reserves are restricted for tourists although some tribal are known to venture into the city limits and highway areas. Most of the islands offer quite beaches and one can take day trips to places such as Barren Island and Long Island. The Mahatma Gandhi National Park is another place which might be worth the visit. Havelock and Neil Islands have the best diving spots and you must visit these. They can be accessed using ferries from Port Blair. The sea near the Gandhi National Park has a wide range of corals and you can see them through the glass boats which can be hired. It is located around 29 kilometers from the capital and you can take a ferry from here. Some dive spots also offer sea cow spotting and you might also be able to dive at night with proper guides,
Port Blair has a few historical monuments and these might be worth visiting as well. You will find a few bunkers built by the Japanese and also a colonial Jail which is almost intact. Surfing, diving, snorkeling, moon bathing and sun bathing are some of the beach related activities which you can opt for. Apart from these you can also take a car or jeep ride through the reserves forests which are quite stunning. Barren Island is home to an active volcano and this might be worth the visit. But you have to take an overnight journey from Port Blair. Andaman and Nicobar Island beaches are clean and waste free as well.
